Special thanks goes out to Jennifer Manazer for helping us vote today! She was in charge of our voting booth. Each child registered to vote by signing in. They were then given a ballot to cast. Once they were done voting, they received an " I voted today" sticker.

We had a great time at the homecoming pep rally. The students had the opportunity to meet Unioto's fall student athletes, listen to the band, and watch the cheerleaders perform. It was a perfect way to end a great week of school! I hope you all have a great weekend.

Author Study ~ Eric Carle
We have been studying Eric Carle and all of his amazing stories. We have learned that he is an author and illustrator. He is well known for his use of colorful illustrations. His art work is created in collage technique, using hand-painted papers, which he cuts and layers to form bright and cheerful images. Check out some of our Eric Carle projects...
The Grouchy Ladybug
This story is about a little ladybug that is VERY grouchy. We decided to make our own "grouchy ladybugs". It was fun taking pictures of our grouchy faces! After we made our bugs, we wrote about things that make us grouchy.
The Tiny Seed
We imagined that we had our own tiny seed to plant. We created illustrations of what would grow from our tiny seeds. The class tried to recreate Eric Carle's use of ripping/gluing tissue paper to create their beautiful pictures. Once our illustrations were complete, we wrote about our tiny seeds.

Mrs. England's class joined us for another yummy cooking club. Today, we made rainbow bars. We melted butter and marshmallows together in the microwave. Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks were added to the melted ingredients.
Since we had something to eat, we thought it would be a good idea to make something to drink too. We (Mrs. England and I) told the kids that we were making Kool-aid.....but we really gave them Jello mix. The "Kool-aid" was prepared and placed in the refridgerator to cool off. The drinks were passed out and the kids tried thier best to drink it through the straw. They didn't know what was going on because nothing would come up through the straw! After a few seconds, Mrs. Enland and I shouted,
"April Fools!"
We took a break from cooking club and turned it into a science club! We learned about tornadoes. The kids enjoyed looking at pictures of real tornadoes, along with watch a few tornado videos. New vocabulary words were learned too....funnel cloud, tornado, tornado alley, and debris.
Weather wiz kids gave us a lot of new information, such as the difference between a tornado watch and a warning. Check out the website....
Working in groups, each table made their own tornado in a bottle. We used two 2-liter empty bottles. We filled one 2/3 of the way up. Debris and food coloring we added to the water. The bottles were stacked and taped together. Once the tornado bottles were complete, we each took turns swirling the bottles. The kids were amazed when the tornadoes started to form in the bottles!
